Shipping to the USA (1): ports and routes

At iContainers we are leaders and specialists in international maritime transport to and from the United States. That is why we started a section dedicated exclusively to trade between these destinations, starting with a brief description of the most important ports and routes.

The routes from the Mediterranean ports of Barcelona, Tarragona, Castellón and Valencia offer transport by maritime container directly in less than 10 days in some cases. In the Atlantic Coast, leaving or entering Algeciras, Vigo or Bilbao we also have very competitive routes at very convenient prices.

Main ports USA

Among the 50 most important ports for containerized shipping, whether for entry (import) or exit (export) are the North American ports. According to World Shipping Council statistics, the first port in the United States is Long Beach, with more than 7.94M of TEUS moved in 2011, followed by the port of Los Angeles, which added to the 6M of Long Beach (in the same area) amount to a total of almost 14M TEUS. On the East Coast, the port of New York-New Jersey is the most important with 5.5M, occupying the 25th position, and the port of Savannah that moves about 3M.

Other ports to consider for international shipping are the Port of Miami or Port Everglades, Charleston, Houston and Oakland. The main inner cities often serve as a dry port through international multimodal transportation, offering direct service to cities such as Chicago, Philadelphia, Memphis, Columbus and Kansas.
